A little bit of lighthearted bike shop humor for the day.
Sometimes being a volunteer in a place that is open to the public one might get mistaken for an employee. In the heat of the action on a steamy july night it is sometimes hard to remember this is just an innocent misunderstanding. Sometimes walking into a dungeon full of starnge apparati surrounded by confusing greasy signage and people babeling jargon and barking orders can be a little unnerving, stressful, or unwelcoming. The instinct to flee is strong. In the heat of the action on a steamy july night it is hard to remember that this is not the impression that you were supposed to get.
I think with a bit of reflection anyone will remember that at one time or another they have lived experiences comaprable to both sides of this classic conundrum, whether in a bike shop or elsewhere. If we all just try a little harder to look at a new situation from the other person’s perspective how much better off the world would be.
Now go home and call your mother.
